- Daniel Libeskind
The design project is to design a mixed-use development for two currently vacant downtown Rochester parcels. 61 North Chestnut Street is triangular and approximately .24 acres in area. 420 East Main Street is polygonal and approximately 1.47 acres in area. The immediate vicinity of these parcels is varied. While some demolitions, including structures on these sites, have weakened the urban environment. The architectural designs have the potential to create street-defining architecture which relates appropriately to the diverse conditions which surround. There is not only the usual problem of placing buildings in urban settings, or of creating new architecture near iconic historic buildings, but an opportunity to illustrate a pattern for the way that surrounding blocks may be restored as vital streetscapes and urban neighborhoods. |
